Breaking the Silence: Talking About Substance Use and Mental Health with Kids in Schools

Gain foundational knowledge of SBIRT, understand its role in school-based prevention and early identification of substance use and mental health conditions, and demonstrate at least two new motivational interviewing skills for brief intervention and referral.

Breakout Sessions (Participants pick two 90-minute sessions to attend, 3 CEs available)

Breakout Session 1 Title: Mindfulness for Beginners

Breakout Session 2 Title: Mindfulness for Intermediate/Advanced 

Session Description: Participants will understand the definition of mindfulness, recognize its benefits in practice, and identify techniques for implementing it in their schools.

Dr. Solomon Moore, Ph.D., LSC, LPC, NCC - 1.5 CE per session (2 sessions)

Breakout Session Title: We're Still Here: Supporting LGBTQ+ Students in Our Schools

Session Description: Participants will discuss and analyze best practices for working with LGBTQ+ students. They will also evaluate advocacy efforts and walk away with practical strategies for their work.

Katie McDonald, LMSW-T, CCTP-II, C-DBT, CYMHS - 1.5 CE per session (2 sessions)

Breakout Session Title: Developing Equitable Interventions & Supports with the Student Needing Connection Framework 

Session Description: This interactive session introduces the Student Needing Connection Framework, integrating NeuroResilience, Attachment Theory, and Protective/Risk Factors to create trauma-responsive, culturally affirming interventions with hands-on case studies, strategy design, and collaborative problem-solving to prioritize relationships, regulation, and resilience.

A total of 6 CE is available during this event! CE certificates will be provided to attendees upon session and survey completion.
